Facilities

New World had several facilities that catered to its performers and patrons. Firstly, New World had numerous theatre halls and venues meant for performances, namely Moonlight hall, City Opera Hall [1] and Octagon Pavilion [2], just to name a few. The New World also unveiled Singapore’s first open-air talkie in 1930 [3], which was a novel activity at that time. The New World’s Grand, Central and Sun theatres [4] were popular cinemas, where the public flock to to watch the talkies.

The New World Stadium was also part of the park, which hosted countless boxing matches [5]. Following the end of WWII, a new open-air stadium was added to the park in 1947. The new 4,500-seat stadium would be able to hold more sports competitions, notably volleyball, basketball, badminton, in addition to boxing matches [6].
